NCBRT Training
I've done this training myself, and I've found it to be some of the best online training I've ever done. The exercises are presented much like video games, and you may find yourself doing them several times, just to "beat," the trainer at their own game. Although this training is touted as, "low cost," it was FREE when I completed them.
From VDEM Alert newsletter, 12AUG09: Low-cost DHS-certified training available The National Center for Biomedical Research and Training at Louisiana State University offers DHS-certified courses covered by the NCBRT’s Homeland Security National Training Program Cooperative Agreement. As a DHS primary training provider, the NCBRT can offer this training at no direct cost to local agencies. Preparing Communities for Agroterrorism: Awareness-Level Prevention and Deterrence of Terrorist Acts – Law Enforcement Version Prevention and Deterrence – An Overview for all Disciplines Foundational Awareness of Weapons of Mass Destruction/Terrorism Nurses on the Frontline: Preparing for Emergencies and Disasters Effects of Weapons of Mass Destruction/Terrorism: Incidents on Mass Feeding Effects of Weapons of Mass Destruction/Terrorism: Incidents on Bulk Distribution Effects of Weapons of Mass Destruction/Terrorism: Incidents on Mass Sheltering Disaster Mental Health Considerations During a Weapons of Mass Destruction/Terrorist Incident NCBRT offers classroom and online training. All classroom training is delivered at a local training facility. Contact the NCBRT at info@ncbrt.lsu.edu or (877) 829-8550 to schedule a course through VDEM, or visit http://www.ncbrt.lsu.edu to learn more about the NCBRT’s training opportunities. RE: Medical Training
As you will see upon going to view NCBRTs eLearning courses, one must register first, and be approved. This was a requirement when I did them, over a year ago. It seems to get DHS certification for these courses, more stringent requirements were placed on NCBRT, on whom they allow in, etc. Even I had to re-register, since these reqs were put in place. So, I too, had to jump through this hoop, and I will let you know whether they see my creds as adequate for entry. Stay tuned for updates, as they emerge.
Good news & Bad news. Good news: As you will see from time stamps in this comment, and the last one I posted in the thread, NCBRT is apparently on the ball. They responded quickly with my same login info (email) but a new PW. So, I can get in and do courses. So should any other VDF personnel. Bad news: I've completed all courses available to me, BUT, the transcript system does NOT show that I've done anything! I have no records for beginning/ending/completing training, no scores and no appropriate CEUs. OK. POA: I will write someone there to remind them I've completed the training, and I will prove it by sending them my certs. Yes, you do get certs for completing this training, and I now hope, CEUs. The problem may be, since the DHS certification process, all records may have been lost/expunged, etc., and I may have to re-complete the training. I hope not, but it's no real problem, as I made PDFs of EVERYTHING I did/completed. Including, course mat'l AND final tests! Hopefully, the tests haven't changed. Also hopefully, I won't even have to complete the courses, again, because once they recieve my certs, they will amend my records to reflect completion. Again, stay tuned...
